Funding
In the first few years, running the “Swiss Bone Marrow Donor Registry” (now called Swiss Blood stem cells) was only possible with third-party financial support. Initially this support came from the Central Laboratory of the Swiss Red Cross (SRC) in Bern and then from the SRC Humanitarian Foundation.
Meanwhile Swiss Blood stem cells has reached a funding agreement with most of the health insurance companies so that it can charge for its work: services that our Foundation carries out for Swiss patients are now paid for by the insurance companies.
Services that we carry out for foreign patients are charged to the respective national registry.
